Tesla the Science RockStar – The Legacy – The Patents – The Man

In my humble opinion Tesla is the RockStar of the Science ELectricity World…

Yet he is largely forgotten because history, as they often say — is written by the victors, and the winners of the economic rat race…

Yet that is of little and maybe cold comfort — to the men and women forgotten out by the Economic Victory’s pen, and we aim to rectify this instantly right here…

For years, science textbooks equated electricity and light with one man, Thomas Edison. And while Edison did major work in the field of Electricity and is the Pioneer credited with the advent of Electircity there is another genius whose pioneering electrical technologies truly power the modern world…

This Man is Nicola Tesla who has languished for more than a century as a footnote in the scientific history of Electricity, sandwiched between Edward Teller, and Thales of Miletus some 2300 year earlier.

And this is simply because just before the turn of the 20th century, electricity remained a mere scientific curiosity — one that many doubted would ever do the world any good.

Yet in testament to the genius of the Man’s work — Nikola Tesla, more than anyone else, changed that, but his pioneering research in electricity representing only a small portion of the scientific and technical innovations that he ushered in various seemingly unrelated fields.

This capacity to discern patterns and detect pathways to Discovery is what elevated him to science’s Hall of Fame — if not to the Figurehead of Electricity way up in the totem pole and certainly far above Thomas Edison… and George Westinghouse.

And although Thomas Edison had upwards of Two Thousand patents to his name and Tesla had only a couple of hundred at best — it was Tesla that had the best Scientific patents but not necessarily the best commercial ones.

Still it was Tesla that not only expanded and revolutionized the work of his predecessors, but he also leapfrogged ahead of his contemporaries to the next step, and the next, and the next…

But, just as it takes more than groundbreaking music to give rise to a rockstar,  methinks it takes more than innovative breakthroughs and amazing machines to make a scientific RockStar.

And I argue that such a figure must also possess intriguing facets and qualities like eccentricity, vision and the will to suffer for science.

Only Nikola Tesla was such a man — amongst the RockStars of Electricity Science and that today is proven as we all invest in Wireless Electricity to be the next Big Thing and the Wave to help us Ride to Stardom.

Good Luck to All of Us.

  1. Tesla’s autobiography is a valuable read for any inventor/entrepreneur.

“That is the trouble with many inventors; they lack patience. They lack the willingness to work a thing out slowly and clearly and sharply in their mind, so that they can actually ‘feel it work.’ They want to try their first idea right off; and the result is they use up lots of money and lots of good material, only to find eventually that they are working in the wrong direction. We all make mistakes, and it is better to make them before we begin.”
