Albert Einstein and Maria Skłodowska – Curie, walking near Lake Léman in Geneva, Switzerland, after a meeting of the most brilliant scientific minds at that time.
The two scientists had been friends since meeting at the First Solvay Conference in Physics, held in Brussels in 1911. They continued to meet at conferences and correspond with each other, as well as go on holidays to the Alps and pursue joint projects for the League of Nations.
Both of them admired each other deeply, with Einstein writing to Curie to say:
“I am impelled to tell you how much I have come to admire your intellect, your drive, and your honesty, and that I consider myself lucky to have made your personal acquaintance”
